Alivia Porter

Central High School junior Alivia Porter captured the Illinois State FFA Proficiency in sheep production. Porter earned the honor by winning the FFA Section 10 and FFA District 2 proficiency events. Porter interviewed at the state competition on Saturday, March 23 at Mt. Zion High School to capture the award.

Porter’s proficiency is a product of her sheep enterprise. She has three different flocks she manages.

Porter has a flock of registered breeding sheep for the purpose of raising high quality genetics to sell and as replacements in her own flock. She markets the sheep at live sales, as well as through online sales.

She also has a commercial flock that produces offspring that can be sold as ewes for a flush program or in her own program.

Her third enterprise is a show flock that Porter advertises at county, state and national sheep shows. She makes decisions regarding breeding and nutrition to further improve the operation.

Porter will be recognized at the FFA State Convention in June and advance to the FFA National Convention in Indianapolis in October.
