On the back of 43 Division I ratings, the Central High School music department sits tied for third in Class C following the IHSA Solo and Ensemble competition. Comet musicians totaled 291 points. Campbell Hill (Trico) is first with 654 points, while Savanna (West Carroll) is second with 324 points. Central is tied with Monmouth (United) and Forreston.

Music departments are broken into five classes: AA, A, B, C and D. Size of school is used to determine which class a department is placed.

Students participating in choir accumulated 201 points, which is the second in class C. Trico is first with 300 points. Choir members racked up 31 Division I ratings, seven Division II ratings and one Division III ratings. Four of those Division I ratings were perfect scores.

Band members totaled 90 points, good for eighth in class C. Trico is first with 336 points. Seventeen groups performed and totaled 12 Division I ratings and five Division II ratings.

The IHSA included solo, ensemble, and organizational contests into a sweepstakes award. Students earn six points for each Division I rating, and three points for earning a Division II rating.

The Comet musicians will have the opportunity to add to its total during the organizational performances on April 13.
