Understanding Dyslexia

We often get questions from parents asking whether we can assess students for Dyslexia.  Dyslexia is a medical condition.  A student with a diagnosis of Dyslexia may be evaluated by the school psychologist and may qualify for special education services under the classification of Specific Learning Disability.

A student experiencing reading difficulties may be referred and may be evaluated for a Specific Learning Disability.  A variety of reading and other assessments are used to determine eligibility.  These are determined on a case-by-case basis.

See the link below for more information and guidance on Dyslexia.

The link to the Parent's guide below can provide information about the referral and evaluation process.  Please don't hesitate to contact the special services department if you have questions.  815-698-2212.
