New Scholarships and Other Opportunities for 2020-2021

Regular up-dates of scholarships and other opportunities

 

There will be regular up-dates of scholarship and other opportunities that are available for all grade levels.  Some information will have web addresses that you can visit.  Copy and paste the web address to your web browser to access these scholarships and programs.  Some scholarships do not have a web address and these scholarships and applications can be acquired in the guidance office

  • College Covered: this site offers helpful resources, FAFSA (financial aid) information, college planning tips, college planning calendar, scholarship, and logins for both parents and students    go to:   https://www.collegecovered.com/
  • www.collegescholarships.org   Fill out one application and the Scholarship Owl will submit your application to numerous Scholarships – ie Target, McDonalds, KFC, just to name a few

 

September Scholarships

November Scholarships

  • SBO Essay Contest - students in music.  $1,000  and matching music products for your school's music program.  Students 9-12 eligible.  Go to:  http://sbomagazine.com/essay-contest/  due by Dec 31

 

January Scholarships

  • Children of Veterans Tuition Waiver - can be applied to the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign, Chicago, Springfield, or Health Sciences Center) - must be a natural or legal child of a veteran - priority deadline January 3

  • GE-Reagan  Foundation Scholarship - demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship - go to:  www.reaganfoundation.org/education/scholarship-programs - due January 5

  • Locker Scholar Athletes - Awarding 20 - $20,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors who are athletes or participate in intramurals, martial arts programs.  Visit https://www.footlockerscholarathletes.com/about for more information and the online application.  due January 8

  • Gates Millennium Scholars - meets unmet need above what FAFSA scholarships will provide, must be an African American, American Indian/Alaskan native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American and citizen of US, 3.3 (unweighted) GPA, first time college student in fall, demonstrated leadership abilities - go to: www.gmsp.org - due January 13

  • National FFA Foundation site offers a variety of scholarship opportunities - go to:  https://www.ffa.org/participate/grants-and-scholarships/scholarships/   Due January 14

  • John F Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest - grades 9-12, essay about an elected official in the US who served during or after 1956, less than 1000 words, go to: www.jfklibrary.org - due January 15

  • American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship - oration of 8-10 minutes - go to: https://www.legion.org/oratorical      - due January 17

  • Young Authors Writing Competition - students submit a poem, story, or essay - opens November and closes January 31            go to:  https://www.colum.edu/academics/initiatives/young-authors-writing-competition

 

February Scholarships

  • CBAI Foundation for Community Banking - Essay writing contest, topic varies yearlyMore information is located in the guidance office.  Deadline February 1 -must be received in CBAI office by 5:00 pm

  • Vietnam Veterans of America Illinois State Council Scholarship - many scholarships available, child or grandchild of veteran, GPA, awards, extracurricular, community service and financial need - go to: https://www.cfnil.org/scholarships/vietnam-vets-scholarship/  - due date February 1

  • National Honor Society Scholarship - Demonstrate outstanding character, scholarship, service, and leadership; must be a member of the National Honor Society.  All members may apply for the national scholarship.  Must completed by February 1

  • Americanism Essay Contest - three class groups for grades 7-12, less than 500 word essay - due by February 7

  • Illinois DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) Scholarship - packets available in the guidance office.                           Deadline is February 15

  • 1st Farm Credit Services - First Choice Agriculture Scholarship - furthering education in agriculture or rural life-related field, based on academic achievement, community and agriculture youth organization involvement and essays - received by    February 15

  • Reynolds-Barwick Scholarship - top 30% of class, senior in an Iroquois County school and also must reside in Iroquois County -    due February 15

  • Beta Sigma Psi Scholarship -  Martin Luther Scholarship.  For any accredited 4-year College or University in the United States.   For more information go to:  http://wp.betasigmapsi.org/scholarships-grants/.  Applications due by February 15

  • Zonta Club of Kankakee - Young Woman in Public Affairs Award - young women, ages 16-19 who demonstrates commitment to the volunteer sector, evidence of volunteer leadership achievements and a dedication to the advancement of the status of women - received by February 20

  • Illinois Chemical Education Foundation is offering a $2000.00 scholarship.  Application must be postmarked by February 24 and received no later than February 26.   For more information on this and other scholarships go to: https://www.cicil.net/

  • NIAAA Student Athlete Scholarship - senior, B+ average, 24 on ACT, participated in two sports at least two years in each sport, at least one varsity letter - go to: https://members.niaaa.org/page/StudentScholarship - due February 28

 

March Scholarships

  • The Illinois Odd Fellow-Rebekah Scholarship - students with financial need that maintain a "C" average - you may apply online - go to: www.ioof-il.org - postmarked by March 1

  • American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship - Children of Warriors National Presidents' Scholarship - child or grandchild of veteran who serviced in the Armed Forces, complete 50 hours of volunteer service in the community during high school - due March 1

  • American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship  - Ada Mucklestone Memorial Scholarship (American Legion Auxiliary) - senior; child or grandchild of veteran; based on character, essay, leadership, scholarship, and need, not pursuing nursing.  Must be received by local auxiliary prior to  March 1

  • Delta Kappa Gamma Education Recruitment Grant - female student planning to major in the field of education - received by March 1

  • KCC Foundation Scholarships - must attend Kankakee Community College, apply online at www.kcc.edu/scholarships - apply between November 1 & March 1

  • Illinois AMVETS and AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary Scholarships - apply on line at:  www.ilamvets.org - due March 1

  • The Illinois Conservation Foundation is offering their Conservation Achievement Scholarship go to: https://ilconservation.org/What-We-Do/Scholarships  deadline is March 1

  • Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Bloomington has various scholarships to offer.  Go to:  http://www.valleyofbloomington.org/WP/scholarships-given/  Applications accepted until March 1

  • IFBW, Illinois Federation of Business Women's Club Inc.,  go to:  http://www.ifbwc.org/scholarships deadline March 1

  • Illinois Elks Association Scholarship - seniors majoring in Physical and Occupational Therapy may apply.  Go to:  http://illinoiselksccc.org/index.html  -due March 12

  • Farm Credit Illinois Scholarships - senior pursuing agriculture careers - Go to: http://farmcreditIL.com - due March 12

  • Illinois Sheriffs' Association - $500.00 to and Illinois resident.  go to: https://www.ilsheriff.org/  due to local sheriff's office by  March 14

  • Compeer Financial Scholarship - senior, GPA 3.0.  Must be an agriculture major, interested in an agriculture-related field, or have an agricultural or rural background.  Go to:  https://compeer.com/Home/Investing-in-Rural-Communities/Giving-Back/Scholarships  due March 15

  • Beta Sigma Psi Scholarships: Christian Leadership Award for University of Illinois students.  For more information go to:  http://wp.betasigmapsi.org   Applications due by March 15

  • Kiwanis Club of Kankakee Scholarship - demonstrate a commitment to school and community service and are focusing on a career with children or benefiting children-  Submitted by March 15

  • Dean Ritter Trust for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Scholarship - for senior who are deaf or hard of hearing in one or both ears (severe to profound), exhibit financial need - go to: http://www.deanritter.org/ - due March 23

  • Central FFA Boosters Scholarship - for CHS seniors who are a member of the Central FFA Chapter exhibiting potential for successful completion of chosen course of study at an institution of higher learning - due March 24 to the guidance office

  • Central Area Jaycees Susan Rosenboom Memorial Scholarship - CHS senior who will further their education in the health or social service field- due March 31

  • Central Athletic Booster Club Scholarship - CHS senior, who participated one or more sports for at least 2 years - due March 31

  • Central Federation of Teachers Scholarship - CHS seniors pursuing a field of education - due March 31

  • Central High School Reunion Classes 1965-66-67 College Scholarship - senior at CHS furthering their education - due March 31

  • Chebanse American Legion Scholarship - sr., scholastic ability & community concern - due March 31

  • Dawn Schafer Memorial Scholarship - CHS senior pursuing a career in health, education, or agriculture at a four-year college or university - due March 31

  • Donnell B Trost and Russell & Marie Kuntz Scholarship - CHS senior - due March 31

  • Kerry Lee O'Brien Scholarship - senior at CHS, essays - due March 31

  • Lions Club Scholarships - Ashkum, Clifton, and Chebanse Lions Club Committees select scholarships for CHS students from their towns and surrounding areas - due March 31

April Scholarships

  • Janie M. Wilken Memorial 4-H/FFA Scholarship - active member of a Ford-Iroquois  4-H Club for at least 5 years and/or a member of a Section 10 FFA Chapter for at least 3 years - contact janiesfarm@yahoo.com for a computer generated application - received by April 1

  • Katelyn Jeanne Graham Memorial Scholarship - CHS senior furthering their education - due April 1

  • Iroquois County Republican Women's Club - female, senior, 3 year resident of Iroquois county, must be a registered voter when you are legally possible, proof US citizenship - due April 1

  • Kankakee County Farm Bureau Foundation Scholarship - reside in Kankakee County or a Kankakee County Farm Bureau member family; accepted to an agriculture-related field of study; assessed based on character, personality, academic performance and honors, and financial need - email kankfb@sbcglobal.net for an application  - due April 1

  •  Lee Bradford Scholarship - must be active in community service projects and/or volunteer opportunities, must live in Kankakee County, attend college or enroll in a vocational training program - due April 1

  • Ford-Iroquois Farm Bureau Foundation General Scholarship and the Skog Family Trust Memorial Scholarship - seniors pursuing an agriculture or an Ag-related field, member or a child of a member of the Ford-Iroquois Farm Bureau - must be received by Farm Bureau Foundation office by April 1

  • Zumper Outstanding Student Scholarship - https://www.zumper.com/scholarship $1000 awarded  April 1 

  • Golden Apple Scholars of Illinois - for seniors who have the potential of being excellent teachers, scholars agree to teach five years in an Illinois school of need, scholars must attend four residential summer institutes - www.goldenapple.org - due December 1 (priority status) or April 3 (final deadline)

  • Illinois Heartland Decorative Artists:  National Society of Decorative Painters  $1000 scholarship and an additional $250. for the winner's high school Art Department.  Applications located in guidance office.  Due April 3

  • Iroquois County Soil and Water Conservation District & Pheasants Forever Scholarship - resident of Iroquois County, demonstrate an interest in conservation - due April 3 to the guidance office

  • Marie Kimmel Memorial Scholarship - active member of a Lutheran church in Iroquois County, will seek a degree on a full-time basis - due April 3

  • Kankakee Area CAP Scholarship - 3.0 GPA, pursuing a career in science, math, health care, or technology - due April 5

  • American Legion - Past Presidents Parley Program, students enrolled/accepted to a nursing program.  Applications located in the guidance office.  Application must be submitted to local auxiliary no later than April 10

  • The Iroquois Country Chamber of Commerce is offering a scholarship to any senior employed by a business actively involved in the Chamber.  go to:  http://www.iroquoiscountychamber.com/ for more information    due April 15th

  • The Bill of Rights Institute.  We the Students Essay Contest - go to:  https://billofrightsinstitute.org/engage/students-programs-events/scholarship/ deadline April 15

  • Arlyn W. Rabideau Scholarship - senior at CHS who will further their education at a college, university, or technical/vocational school - due April 15

  • Central 5K Memorial Running to Remember... - All CHS senior(s) - due to the guidance office by April 15

  • Dave Ader Scholarship - CHS senior student - due April 15

  • Superintendent Scholarship - CHS senior, essay required - due April 15

  • Tom Norton Scholarship - CHS senior, must attend 4 year college or university - due April 15

  • American Legion Scholarships - American Legion Legacy Scholarship - children of fallen and disabled veteran post 9/11 are eligible - go to:  www.legion.org/scholarships/legacy - due April 15

  • The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis/ Insuring Rural Communities -  based on financial need, GPA 2.0 or higher,  for those pursuing information technology, healthcare, or risk management.  go to:  https://stlouisgraduates.academicworks.com/opportunities/3432 applications must be submitted by April 15

  • AMVETS Scholarships offer scholarship opportunities to active duty veterans and their families.  https://amvets.org/scholarships/  due by April 30th

May Scholarships

  • IKGSL Scholarship - available to junior or senior softball players belonging to the IKGSL league.  Scholarhip applications are available in the guidance office.  Applications must be returned by May 1st 

  • Edna A. Willms Scholarship - based on achievement and financial need, character and involvement in school activities, volunteer activities, and community service - due May 1

  • American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship

             - Past Presidents Parley Nurses Scholarship (American Legion Auxiliary) - based on commitment to a nursing career, character, financial need, scholastic rating - due May 1

  • Cody J. Lehmkuhl Memorial Scholarship - senior who attended two years at Career Center, planning on attending a tech/trade school community college or university immediately following graduation - due May 1

  • Ford-Iroquois 4-H Foundation Scholarship - senior, 4-H member for the past five years, current 4-H club member in Ford or Iroquois club, must have exhibited in a current year 4-H show - due May 1

  • Iroquois County Law Enforcement Association - students pursuing a degree in the field of Law Enforcement.  Must be a resident of Iroquois County.  Applications located in the guidance office - must be post marked by May 14

  • Kids’ Chance Inc. of Illinois was founded with the goal of awarding academic scholarships to deserving children of workers seriously injured or killed on the job.  go to:  http://www.kidschanceofillinois.com/ applications must be turned in no later than May 31

June Scholarships

  • Miner Charitable Foundation Scholarship - available January - senior with financial need for college, preference given to students pursuing an Ag degree - due June 1
