Welcome to Health Class

by Eva McGill

We are off to a great start in Health class!

We have just begun our semester with learning about the various sides of Health and why we need to work on all three sides of the Health Triangle and avoid risk factors to increase our quality of life.  We will soon begin the unit on mental health including mental health challenges. The second unit explores the various systems of the body and how they work together to create our amazing body. Our third unit will show them the Truth About Drugs and I hope they will find that the risks involved with using alcohol, tobacco, and other categories of drugs are NOT WORTH IT!  The third unit will include the Flour Baby project as we explore sexual/reproductive health as well as disease including sexually transmitted diseases.  Finally, we will end the semester with our CPR and First Aid unit.

Students will receive daily homework assignments that build up to the unit test.  The unit tests will build up to the semester exam.  There will also be a couple of bigger projects to be completed that students will be given ample time to complete.  Please encourage your student to stay on top of their assignments and check Skyward frequently so they see what their grade is doing.  Also, please advise them to come talk to me if they are frustrated or confused by an assignment or need help or advice.  Each unit comes with a built in extra credit assignment which is to complete the unit study guide. Completing the study guide not only earns them extra credit points but also helps them prepare and study for the test. Win - Win!

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about the class, topics, or your student's work.  I understand that some of the the topics and issues I deal with in class are sometimes difficult to address.  I feel it is very important that all of my students know that abstinence from sexual contact, drugs and alcohol is the safest and healthiest choice they can make for their life. My entire course is designed to show them why this is true!  Thank you for your support!
