Nash Middle School Wrestlers Excel at State Tournament

By Graham, Tyler

March 11, 2013

Nash Middle School took three wrestlers to the IESA State Tournament in Dekalb, Illinois over the weekend. The state qualifiers were Adrian Pace 100lbs, Jacob Smith 126lbs, and Josh Smith 135lbs. Josh finished in the top 8 by going 3-2 in the tournament and making it to the quarterfinal wrestle-back. Adrian and Jacob competed their way to the championship match. Jacob took 2nd in the state while Adrian became Nash Middle School’s first ever state champion. The three wrestlers finished with very impressive records (Adrian 35-2, Jacob 34-3, and Josh 32-6). All three wrestlers are 7th graders and will be heavy favorites to place at next year’s tournament. On top of that, Nash finished 11th in the state as a team. They finished higher than any other area team. There were over 100 teams at the tournament this year.
