Rockets Take Two Trophies at Twin County Tournament

Both Teams Earn Top 3 Honors

February 22, 2010

The Twin County Tournament was hosted by Iroquois West over the weekend.  At Iroquois West High School, our 7th grade team beat the host school in the first round (25-10, 25-15) on Friday night.  Saturday morning proved to be a little more difficult for the 7th graders as they lost to GCMS their first match of the day.  Fortunately they pulled it together in the consolation match with Cissna Park to bring home the 3rd place trophy!  Way to go!

The 8th grade traveled to Iroquois West Middle School in Onarga to take on the host school Friday night as well.  They easily handled the Raiders in two games, 25-14 and 25-18. On Saturday morning, the Rockets faced PBL in the first match.  The Rockets built some momentum in the first game (25-20) and easily won the second game (25-12), with Mary Peters placing a perfect serve to end the match.  This was the best volleyball the Rockets have played all season!  In the championship match, the Rockets struggled to return the serve of Prairie Central in the first game and took the loss (9-25).  The Rockets regained some confidence in the second game, but it wasn't enough to best a very good PC team (19-25).   Taylor Hull was the lead server for the Rockets, tallying 10 in the match.  he loss earned the Rockets the 2nd place trophy.  Everyone of the Rockets contributed to this achievement, whether it was serving, hitting, blocking or digging the ball.  This is still a great accomplishment since the team entered the tournament seeded 4th.  Excellent job, Rockets!
