8th grade Math & Consumer Science
Mrs. Briscoe
February 07, 2011
Math students in Mrs. Briscoe's class are preparing for the ISAT test. The test will be given the first week of March...and we are ready for it!
Consumer Science students have been learning about the real problem of teen-age alcohol abuse. They are now working on group projects that explore different aspects of the issue. Group projects include:
*"It's My Party"------planning fun, alcohol-free parties and handling situations where someone brings alcohol to a party
*"Booze in Your Body"------understanding how alcohol affects a young person's body and ongoing development
*"The Sports Report"------finding out how alcohol affects athletic performance and learning about high school athletic rules regarding drinking
*"On The Air!"------creating a public service announcement for teenagers about underage drinking
*"Fun City"-------finding out what alcohol-free fun activities your community has for teens
*"Looney Teens"-----looking at how cartoons show alcohol use and seeing how people of different ages interpret the cartoons
All projects will include a poster and a class presentation.
This POWERLines unit is provided by the Iroquois-Kankakee Regional Office of Education, the Pledge for Life Partnership, and the Life Education Center.
