July 11, 2008

Hello! My name is Gail Scoggan.  I grew up in Waukegan, IL where I attended school.  I graduated from Illinois State University and have been teaching at Central High School since 1978. I will be teaching Keyboarding, Advanced Keyboarding/Word Processing, Computer Applications and Yearbook Publications during the 2008-2009 school year.  I also sponsor the senior class along with Mrs. Adams.  Below is a list of my classes with a little information as to what students will be learning in those classes.

KEYBOARDING

Keyboarding is designed to develop basic skills in touch keyboarding techniques for entering alphabetic, numeric, and symbol information found on computers.  Students will learn to edit and format text and paragraphs found in letters, memos, reports and tables.  We will spend the first 4-6 weeks reviewing the correct fingering for the keys on the keyboard as well as correct spacing for punctuation and symbols.  There will be no homework as all work is done in class.  Emphasis will be placed on improving proofreading skills.  Students will be using Microsoft Word 2003.  Students are encouraged to purchase a flash drive to save all of their graded assignments to.  They need to be responsible for their data and this is a good time to begin that process.

TYPING I

This class is designed to advance the skills learned in Keyboarding.  Students will be using the same word processing programs as Keyboarding students.  Emphasis will be made on proofreading skills.  Students will learn to format various documents with many features.  All work will be done in class so there will be no homework unless a student is absent.

YEARBOOK PUBLICATIONS

This class is designed to publish the Central High School yearbook, The Centonian.  Students will have the opportunity to learn many skills such as working as a team, taking pictures, managing a budget, selling advertisements, and meeting deadlines.  Many of these skills will transfer to their adult life.
