Agriculture Department Expectations and Guidelines

Every student enrolled in an agriculture course must comply with the following policies and guidelines.


CAREER DEVELOPMENT EVENTS (CDEs)


Students are given many opportunities to apply their content knowledge gained in the classroom at a competitive event. These events are held outside of classroom hours. Students are encouraged to attend these events. ** are required and will be reflected in their grade as an assessment.


Introduction to Agriculture: Creed Public Speaking Contest, Poultry CDE, Parliamentary Procedure
Introduction to Ag Mechanics: Ag Mechanics CDE
Basic Horticulture Science: Horticulture CDE**
Basic Ag Science: Land Use CDE (Soils)** Agronomy CDE**
Ag Construction and Ag Power: Ag Mechanics CDE
Advanced Ag Mechanics: Ag Mechanics CDE
Ag Operations: Ag Communications CDE, Ag Sales CDE
Ag Business Management: Ag Communications CDE, Ag Business Management CDE

COOPERATIVE WORK HOURS
Students must work outside of the classroom hours at the department cooperative. Student hours will be worked during regular coop hours (Tuesday 3:30-5:30 pm and Saturday 8:00 -11:30 am)

4 hours per semester:
Introduction to Agriculture
Introduction to Ag. Mechanics
Ag Construction
Ag Power
Basic Ag Science

6 hours per semester
Ag Operations
Greenhouse Management
Ag Business Management
Advanced Ag Mechanics

Plant Sale Hours
Aval. only April 24 – May 8
5 hours: Horticulture
10 hours: Greenhouse Management

THESE HOURS ARE THE WORK EXPERIENCE COMPONENT OF YOUR SEMESTER FINAL, EQUIVALENT TO 50% OF THE FINAL EXAM GRADE.


FFA MEMBERSHIP


FFA is an integral role of agriculture education. Students are required to be a member of the organization, and attend 1 activity per month. The activity can be a chapter meeting, contest, convention, community service project, etc.
$10 dues are due October 1 2009

Skyward Name - Category Weight
Tests Assessments - 35%
In-Class work Assignments/Labs/Reports/Participation - 50%
Homework SAE & Record keeping - 10%
Participation FFA Participation - 5%


MATERIALS FOR CLASS
You are required to bring to class: paper, writing utensil, 3 ring binder, flash drive (or storage device). A simple calculator is also recommended.


SUPERVISED AGRICULTURE EXPERIENCE (SAE)
Students involved in an agriculture course are required to maintain an SAE. Students may utilize the on-line record keeping system or the paper books. Access to either system will be provided by the instructor. Students keep financial records on an activity such as their after school job, animal project, community service project, or other project approved by the instructor. Maintenance of the project is done outside of classroom hours and
students are given in class time to complete the record keeping component of the project.
