Varsity Club Recognizes IHSA Week
by Rebecca Swigert
October 14, 2008
October 13-17 is IHSA week. The Illinois High School Association
designated each day to recognize a group or concept. For example,
Tuesday is Officials Day, Wednesday is Health Awareness Day, and
Thursday is Coaches Day. CHS’ Varsity Club has decided to do some
activities in conjunction with IHSA week. The students asked the
coaches to submit a line, or saying, that they frequently use in
games and practices. Some of these lines include, “Grab a rope,” “I
don’t hate it,” “Push,” and “Hard Work is the Cornerstone of
Success.” The student-athletes then get to choose which quote goes
with which coach. This Friday, October 17, is Fan Appreciation Day.
Not only do the student-athletes plan to honor their classmates who
come and support them at the games, but as a school, we want to
thank the community for all of their support day in and day out
whether it be family and friends helping with transportation,
traveling to faraway places (like Chester) for games, sitting in
the stands rain or shine, or financial support. Here are a few
thank-yous from the student-athletes, but know that we all
appreciate your support!
Happy Fan Appreciation Day!
“Thank you for attending our softball games, rain or shine, and supporting us through our entire season. The support from our community means a lot to the team and makes us want to work that much harder for our dedicated fans.” - Nicole Brenneisen, Softball
“Thank you to all of the fans who support us all year long. Whether it basketball, baseball, or football, the crowds are always loud. This constant buzz coming from the stands is a reminder of how important sports are to this community. The games I remember the most would be last year’s playoff game at home and the white out in basketball. Hopefully the crowds continue to get bigger! -Matt Lemenager, Football, Basketball, Baseball
“I don’t think our fans know how important they are. We feed off their enthusiasm and we really appreciate them coming and supporting us. Fans, you are a big part of our victories! Thanks to all of the Comet Fans!” -Melissa Gardner, Basketball, Volleyball
“I would like to thank all of the fans and the community for supporting us in our football and basketball games. We appreciate all the enthusiasm and cheering during our games. It means a lot to all of us that we have an excellent community supporting us in doing things that we love.” -Doug Bell, Football, Basketball
“As an athlete, fans are a big part of my game. I thrive off a
loud and intense crowd. I just want to thank all of our fans that
come and support our girls’ sports because you make a difference,
and you don’t get enough recognition! Thank you!”
-Kayle Hull, Volleyball, Basketball, Softball
