April Peters

by April Peters

Hi.  My name is April Peters.  I have been a speech-language pathologist for ten years, five of those years being with Central Community Unit School District #4.  I serve primarily pre-school, Early Childhood, and elementary students.  My experience includes diagnosing and providing services to children with autism, hearing impairment, apraxia of speech, oral-motor dysfunction, Down Syndrome, phonological disorders, articulation disorders, fluency disorders, language processing disorders, and receptive/expressive language delays.

I earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Communication Disorders and Sciences from Eastern Illinois University and I earned my Master's of Health Sciences in Communication Disorders from Governor's State University.  I hold the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), in addition to licensure from the state of Illinois.  It is very important to be cognizant of new therapeutic approaches and new theories being developed regarding communication.  Therefore, I make every attempt to attend conferences throughout the year that I feel may have a positive influence on the students I serve.

Listed below you will find articles related to typical speech/language development.  It is important to remember that every child is unique and develops at his/her own rate.  Therefore, keep in mind that these articles are guidelines and should be viewed as such. If you have questions or concerns regarding your child's speech/language development please contact me at 697-2642 ext 2214.
