Winter Activities from The Reading Room
by Carol Morse
August 21, 2008
Another summer has come and gone and it is time for another year. I am Carol Morse and I have been teaching for 32 years. My husband retired 6 years ago after having worked for Chebanse Grade School for 37 years. We have two daughters and four wonderful grandchildren.
I came to Central School District right from college in 1968. I spent a number of years at home with our two daughters and returned seven years later. I have been teaching Title 1 Reading for over 20 years and I enjoy my job everyday. I enjoy coming to school and helping children with letters, sounds, vowels and reading comprehension.
Please take time to read 10 minutes each day with your child.
Fall has arrived and I am enjoying the cooler weather. The trees around our school building are changing colors and everything looks beautiful. Fall is a wonderful time to sit and read with your child. Have them read their Library book to you - if not the whole thing - just a page or two and discuss what they have read. These cool evenings are perfect for snuggling and reading together. Just to let you know - our Family Reading Night/Chili Supper will be at the school on Thursday night, November 20... More information will come home with your student.
FALL into good books!
I am looking forward to seeing and meeting you at our Fall Conferences next week. That is always a good time to talk about each child and I will be giving you a few "tips" about reading that you can use at home.
Our Fall Book Fair is coming soon and that would be a good time to pick up a few Christmas gifts for your child. GIVE THE GIFT OF READING.
I enjoyed meeting many of you during our November Conference times. Please feel free to call or to e-mail me about any Reading question you might have...There is such a short time between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year that we will have to work hard to get everything done that I want us to do. Winter and the cold will be here before we know it - so plan now to have some quiet, winter, snowy evenings and have some books and hot chocolate ready for you and your child. This is the Season for Reading!
WE ARE GOING TO SHINE IN 2009 !! That is going to be the Reading Room theme for the last months of the school year. My First Graders are going to work very hard to "shine" knowing more and more words. My Second-Third and Fourth Graders are going to "shine" with their AR points. We are going to make New Year's Resolutions that everyone will make the classroom AR goal and that most of them will make the AR Party goal! When we raise our expectations - students tend to reach and exceed those expectations. January is a New Year - a New Beginning. It is never to late to learn to enjoy reading! SHINE IN 2009 with us....
