Music Notes from Chebanse Elementary

February 28, 2013

Greetings from Mrs. Stanton, Chebanse Elementary Music Teacher,

It has been quite some time since I submitted anything on my webpage.  That is due to procrastination on my part, as well as technical difficulties.

The kindergarten, first and second grades gave a fine Winter/Christmas concert in December.  In January we have been singing songs about Martin Luther King, as well as some spirituals.  To commemorate President's day, we have learned some patriotic songs as well: " You're a Grand Old Flag"  in the 1st grade; "This Land Is Your Land" in the 2nd grade;" America the Beautiful" in the 3rd grade; and the" Star-Spangled Banner" in the 4th grade.  The kindergarten  has been singing "He Was a Tall Man" about Abraham Lincoln.

Laura Ingall's Wilder, author of the Little House books, was born on February 7, 1867.  As she is one of my favorite authors, I decided to do a unit on her.  We have been learning songs that she sang as a girl - among them "Oh Susanna" and "Pop Goes the Weasel".

I am very happy I am a music teacher.
