January 01, 2009

January

Happy 2009!  The school year is moving right along!  This month in science, students will learn about various adaptations that plants and animals have in order to meet their basic needs.  One hands-on activity that we will do is the bird beak activity.  Students will use various tools to represents the different shapes and sizes of bird beaks.  They will practice using these tools to pick up various types of bird food.  This activity helps students to see that certain shaped beaks are needed in order to pick up specific food.  We will also be working on the food chain and various new vocabulary words that go along with this unit.

Social studies was cut short during the month of December.  All of the extra assemblies and guest speakers made our schedule very busy!  We will continue to talk about family trees and immigration during the month of January.  We will also begin working with the constitution and various parts of the government.

Hope you stay warm this month!  As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
