3D is the place to be!

Hello! My name is Katie Hendershot and I am new to Chebanse Elementary. I am originally from the area, but have just recently moved back after living in Cape Coral, Florida for one year. My husband Josh and I reside in Danforth. We have three children, Jaxon, Mason, and Gracy.
I graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Family Services. It had always been my desire to work with children, but I had difficulty finding a position that would allow me to do so. I worked at Dwight Correctional Center for two years as a Dual Diagnosis Counselor before deciding to return to school to pursue a degree in education. In 2007, I graduated from Olivet Nazarene University with a Master of Arts in Teaching. While in Florida, I taught 2nd grade.
Reading: We have
finished Theme 2 and are well into Theme 3. Theme 3 focuses
on Incredible Stories. Students will have the opportunity to
explore fantasy and realism, following directions, drawing
conclusions, and story structure. The stories are fun and the
students are really enjoying them.
Math: Before Christmas break, students wrapped up Chapter 5 on time and money. After break, we will be starting multiplication Mastering Math Facts. Students received a multiplication table to help them to memorize these multiplication facts. Students should also continue to practice subtraction, telling time, and counting money.
Writing: Since I met with parents at Parent/Teacher Conferences, students have really started to expand in their expository writing. I have seen their confidence grow with their writing. As we have become more experienced with the expository format, we will start to focus more on including details.
