Welcome Parents! I have had a wonderful month with your children. Some February highlights include:
In math we are learning to add and subtract larger numbers. This often involves regrouping a number. Most of the students are doing very well with these new skills.
In reading we have read and tested on several stories in our basal reader. In addition to that we are continuing the Accelerated Reader program. All students have been tested to determine their reading level. They then check out books from the library at the appropriate level. When they have finished with the book they take a computer test. A student must achieve 70% correct in order to pass a test. At that time they accumulate points. During the third quarter our classroom goal is 3 points. If the student accumulates 8 points, they are eligible to attend the AR reward party. ALL of our students reached the party goal in the second quarter and were able to attend the ice skating party! Please make sure that your child brings his AR book home and READS it!
In social studies we learned about the two famous presidents with February birthdays. George Washington and Abraham Lincoln grew up very differently but both became powerful presidents who helped to shape our nation.
Thanks for visiting! Stay warm!!
