National Honor Society was established in 1921 by the National Association of Secondary School Principals. By 1930, more than 1,000 chapters existed. Today, National Honor Society chapters are found in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, many U.S. territories and Canada, with an estimated one millions participants. According to the National Honor Society website, doctors, actors, actresses, astronauts, politicians, award winners, professional athletes and one U.S. President (Gerald Ford) are NHS members.
