May Music Department News

May 02, 2017

Following a successful month of April, the Central High School and Nash Middle School Music Department rolls into an action packed May.

April always brings IHSA and IESA Organizational Music Contests.  This year, all of the Central and Nash performing groups earned Division I (Superior) Ratings from a panel of three judges.  On April 22, Central’s band and choirs traveled to Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School to participate in the IHSA Music Contest.  The Concert Band, Girls’ Choir and the Mixed Choir all received Division I ratings from each adjudicator en route to Division I overall ratings.  Nash served as the host school for the April 29 IESA Music Contest and also came away with top ratings.  The Concert Band as well as the Seventh Grade Choir and the Eighth Grade Choir received Division I overall ratings with the Eighth Grade Choir honored as the “Best of the Day” by the choir judging panel.

Nash MS has one more concert on the schedule.  The Fifth Grade Band and the Sixth Grade vocal music classes will present their Spring Concert Thursday, May 11 at 7:00 PM in Central’s Mills Auditorium.

Central’s Jazz Band and Jazz Choir will stage their popular Nite-On-The-Town on Saturday, May 20 at 7:00 PM and again on Sunday, May 21 at 2:00 PM.  Tickets are now available through the CHS office.  Reserved seats are five dollars in advance and seven dollars at the door.  This year’s show is themed “A Century of American Popular Music” and features performances by the Jazz Band and Jazz Choir as well as the NOTT Dance Troupe, the CHS Color Guard and numerous soloists and small groups.  Comedy routines from various eras will be performed.  Please contact Mrs. Cheryl Weber in the Central office to purchase advance tickets.

Central’s Music Boosters will wrap up their school while also planning for their Iroquois County Fair Concession Booth with a May 9 meeting in the CHS Band Room.  The meeting convenes at 7:00 PM.  All parents of music students in CUSD #4 are invited to attend.

Central’s Fine Arts Awards Night and Desert will be on Friday, May 12 at 7:00 PM in the CHS Cafeteria.  The event recognizes all Central students who participated in band, choir, visual art and theater productions.  Attending Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors are asked to bring a desert to share.  Seniors are requested to bring a case of cold water.
