Varsity Club Attends U of I Game

On Sunday, October 21, 2012, Varsity Club members had the opportunity to travel to the University of Illinois to attend an Illinois vs. Nebraska volleyball game. Before the game, U of I academic counselor Kathy Kaler helped organize a Q & A session with several Fighting Illini student-athletes. The high school and college student-athletes met at the Irwin Academic Center and members of the football, baseball, swimming, & track teams talked about an “average day” in college and the ways they go about balancing hours of training with hours of studying each day. The college athletes also gave the students a tour of the academic center, a place exclusively reserved for athletes at Illinois. This time with the college athletes was worthwhile, as many Central student-athletes have aspirations of playing at the next level. Although #4 Nebraska defeated #25 Illinois soundly (3 sets to none), it was a fun and educational afternoon.
