Mole Day 2009

Central High School went to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago for the annual Chemical Industries Council of Illinois' Career Day on Friday, Oct. 23, 2009. The inorganic chemistry students watched demonstrations by Lee Merek, took a careers quiz, and met with employers such as the Illinois EPA, Carus Chemical, the US Coast Guard, and 20 other industrial or applied chemical businesses.
The students have been calculating what a mole means in terms of mass and number of atoms or molecules. Using conversion factoring, students are demonstrating success at one and two step methods of analysis.
As seen, both the Chem Comm and Inorganic Chem, classes took part in creating moles at home for the first quarter grading period. The moles were very unique and seem to like a photo op for posterity sake.
Thanks for all who successfully celebrated 6:20 on 10^23
