New Scholarships and Other Opportunities for 2016-2017

Regular up-dates of scholarships and other opportunities

There will be regular up-dates of scholarship and other opportunities that are available for all grade levels.  Some information will have web addresses that you can visit.  Copy and paste the web address to your web browser to access these scholarships and programs.  Some scholarships do not have a web address and these scholarships and applications can be acquired in the guidance office.  Scholarships highlighted in this color are scholarships that are due very soon or recently past due.  Scholarships highlighted in this color are scholarship that are newly listed.

  • Wendy's High School Heisman Award - class of 2017 with a 'B' grade average, participates in at least one sport - apply online at www.wendysheisman.com - due October 3
  • Young Arts Award - students ages 15-18 or grades 10-12 may apply in the areas of cinematic arts, dance, design arts, jazz, music, photograph, theater, visual arts, voice, writing, spoken word - go to www.youngarts.org/apply - by October 14
  • "Make the U" Colgate-Palmolive Hispanic Scholarship - must be of Hispanic heritage, based on 3 short essays of 500 words or less - go to www.colgate.com/hazlau  - submitted by October 15
  • Horatio Alger National and State Scholarship - senior, pursue a bachelor's degree, critical financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross income), involved in co-curricular and community service activities, 2.o GPA - due by October 25
  • Coca-Cola Scholars Program - senior must have a 3.0 or higher - apply online at http://www.coca-colascholarsfoundation.org/applicants/#.Viel_rEo6M8 - due by October 31
  • Stokes Educational Scholarship Program - must major in computer science, or computer/electrical engineering - Senior in high school, ACT at least 25 or SAT of 1200, GPA 3.0, U.S. citizen - go to: www.IntelligenceCareers.gov/NSA - due from September 1 through October 31
  • KCC Foundation Scholarships - must attend Kankakee Community College, apply online at www.kcc.edu/scholarships - apply between November 1 & March 1
  • Prudential Spirit of Community Award - this award is to recognize middle and high school students for volunteer service in their community - apply at http://spirit.prudential.com or www.nassp.org/spirit - due by November 8
  • Hagan Scholarship Foundation - intended for high achieving students who will require financial assistance in order to attend college - go to:  www.hsfmo.org - due November 15
  • Soy Scholarship - senior with a 3.0, child or grandchild of a current ASA member, pursue an agricultrue degree - go to https://soygrowers.com/award-programs/soy-scholarship - due November 21
  • Greenhouse Scholar - attend a four-year institution, 3.5 GPA, demonstrate financial need (household income no greater than $70,000), strong interest in and commitment to the community, persevere through difficult circumstances, and excellent leadership skills - go to www.greenhousescholars.fluidreview.com - due December 1
  • Golden Apple Scholars of Illinois - for the class of 2016 who have the potential of being excellent teachers, scholars agree to teach five years in an Illinois school of need, scholars must attend four residential summer institutes - see Mrs. Smith for more information or go to:  www.goldenapple.org - due (priority) December 1 or February 15
  • Burger King McLamore Foundation Scholars Program - sr., maintain a 2.5 GPA, full-time enrollment in 2017-18 at a 2 or 4 year college, university, or trade school - go to https://www.scholarsapply.org/burgerkingscholars/ - available October 15 thru December 15
  • AXA Community Scholarship - based on ambition and drive, determination to set and reach goals, respect for self/family and community, abitlity to secceed in college  - go to: https://us.axa.com/axa-foundation/about.html - due December 15
  • NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation Scholarship - senior, attend a school of higher learning, and has an established business - go to: www.NFIB.com/YEA - due December 18
  • Thomas H Moore IEC Memorial Scholarship - Must be a high school senior and be the son or daughter of an IL Electric Cooperative consumer currently receiving service from the Cooperative- must be planning to enroll full-time in a college, university, or vocational/technical school - go to: www.eiec.coop - received by December 31
  • 2016 John F Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest - grades 9-12, essay about an elected official in the US who served during or after 1956, less than 1000 words, go to: www.jfklibrary.org - due January 4
  • Ayn Rand - Anthem Essay Contest - grades 8-10, write an essay on the Ayn Rand book, Anthem - due March 29
  • Ayn Rand - The Fountainhead Essay Contest - grades 11-12, write an esay on the Ayn Rand book, The Fountainhead - due April 26
  • Ayn Rand - Atlas Shrugged Essay Contest - grade 12, write andessay on the Ayn Rand book, Atlas Shrugged - due April 28
  • LaVern and Nola McEntire Lineworker's Scholarship (IEC) - seniors, parents are members of Illinois Electric Cooperative and receiving service, enrolled in the electric distribution lineworker programs at Lincoln Land Community College - received by April 30
  • Kids' Chance Scholarship - for deserving children of workers serious injured or killed on the job - go to http://www.kidschanceofillinois.com/ - due April 30
  • Vincent E. O"Brien Iroquois County Scholarship - attend University of Illinois in Urabana-Champaign in the College of Engineering - U of I selects the student from the applications
  • Eastern Illinois University Scholarships for New Freshman Students - merit scholarships, go to www.eiu.edu/scholarships/merit.php for the merit calculator - other scholarship available at www.eiu.edu/scholarships
  • First Scholars - first-generation student, first-time full time student - go to: www.firstscholars.org

  • Vietnam Veterans of America Illinois State Council Scholarship - many scholarships available, child or grandchild of veteran, GPA, awards, extracurricular, community service and financial need - go to: http://www.sdit.org/scholarships.html - due date varies with different scholarships
  • US Bank Internet Scholarship Program - apply on-line at www.usbank.com/scholarship - runs early 2015 through March
  • Cappex.com Scholarships - two scholarships: High School Innovator of the Year and "lead With Your Heart" Scholarship - go to www.cappex.com/scholarships
  • The Christian Connector - over $150 Million in scholarships & grants were given by christian schools - go to: www.ChristianConnector.com

  • Apartment List Scholartship - exemplify one or more of these core values:  bold while pragmatic, endlessly helpful, making an impact, driven by data, succeeding together, and/or forever learning; will be attending an accredited university or college - go to: https://www.apartmentlist.com/scholarship - due December 1
  • Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program - one student with a 2.8 GPA is nominated from the school (selected for 2014-15) for their commitment to community, academics, and demonstrated leadership - due December 3

  • Kankakee Iroquois Educational Office Professionals Scholarship - senior, must intend to continue in an office-related business program, must have completed two or more business education courses (four semesters), must be enrolled/expected as a full-time student in an institution of higher education (2-4 year College/University), must be responsible for the completion and return of all required support material - due December 11
  • GE-Reagan  Foundation Scholarship - demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship - go to:  www.reaganfoundation.org/scholarships - due January 7
  • Gates Millennium Scholars - meets unmet need above what FAFSA scholarships will provide, must be an African American, American Indian/Alaskan native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American and citizen of US, 3.3 (unweighted) GPA, first time college studen in fall, demonstrated leadership abilities - go to: www.gmsp.org - due January 13
  • RMHC U.S. Scholarships - senior, eligible to attend a two of four year college - go to:  www.rmhc.org/rmhc-us-scholarships - due October 1 through January 20
  • American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship - A constitutional speech contest - due January 29

  • National Honor Society Scholarship - Demonstrate outstanding character, scholarship, service, and leadership; must be a member of the National Honor Society.  All members may apply for the national scholarship.  Applications must completed by February 1
  • Delta Kappa Gamma Education Recruitment Grant - female student planning to major in the field of education - received by February 1
  • 2016 CBAI Foundation for Community Banking Annual Scholarship - seniors, essay contest emphasizing the philosophy of the community banking industry - due February 3
  • Americanism Essay Contest - three class goups for grades 7-12, less than 500 word essay - due by February 5
  • Beta Sigma Psi Martin Luther Scholarship - young men who will be attending their first year at any accredited four-year college or university, must be confirmed in the Lutheran faith - due February 13
  • Beta Sigma Psi Christian Leadership Award - must attend University of Illinois, Indiana University, or Purdue Universtiy, Lutheran men - sue February 13
  • Mediacom Communication Scholarship - academic achievement, leadership abilities, school and/or community involvement - go to:  www.mediacomworldclass.com - due February 15

  • Kankakee Area CAP Scholarship - 3.0 GPA, pursuing a career in science, math or technology - due February 22

  • Farm Credit Illinois Scholarships - senior pursuing agriculture careers - Go to: http://farmcreditIL.com - due February 29
  • Children of Veterans Tuition Waiver - can be applied to the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign, Chicago, Springfield, or Health Sciences Center) - must be a natural or legal child of a veteran - due March 1
  • National Defenese Transportation Association Scholarship - priority given to those in a degree program related to business, transportation logistics, or physicla distribution - due March 1
  • Illinois AMVETS and AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary Scholarships - apply on line at:  www.ilamvets.org - due March 1

  • Illinois AHEC Community College Healthcare Hero Award - must life in Iroquois or Kankakee county, competed one semester at IL community college, planning to enroll full-time in a health science program at any IL community college, 2.5 GPA - received by March 14 at 4:00 PM
  • Illinois AHEC Future Healthcare Hero Award - must live in Iroquois or Kankaee county, pursue entry into any health science program, intend to practice in a rural setting, 2.5 GPA - received by March 14 at 4:00 PM
  • IL Lumber and Material Dealers Educational Foundation Academic Scholarship - pursue industry-related course work - due March 14
  • Iroquois County Golf Scholarship - CHS senior, accepted to a college or university, 2.0 GPA, interview, attend golf tourney this summer - due March 15
  • Iroquois Farmers State Bank Community Bankers Scholarship Program - senior, full time college student next year, preference of a 2.5 to 3.5 GPA - due March 15
  • Sons of Confederate Veterans Scholarship - descendant of a male who served honorably in the army, navy, judicial, executive, or civil service of the Confederate States of America, lineage must be documented - due prior to March 15
  • Central FFA Boosters Scholarship - for CHS seniors who are a member of the Central FFA Chapter exhibiting potential for successful completion of chosen course of study at an institution of higher learning - due March 18 to the guidance office
  • Dean Ritter Trust for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Scholarship - for senior who are deaf or hard of hearing in one or both ears (severe to profound), exhibit financial need - due March 25
  • Bethany Cailteux Scholarship  CHS senior planning on entering the medical field - due March 31
  • Central Area Jaycees Susan Rosenboom Memorial Scholarship - CHS senior who will further their education in the health or social service field- due March 31
  • Central Athletic Booster Club Scholarship - CHS senior, who participated one or more sports for at least 2 years - due March 31

  • Central High School Reunion Classes 1965-66-67 College Scholarship - senior at CHS who will further their education - due March 31

  • Zonta Club of Kankakee - Young Woman in Public Affairs Award - young women, ages 16-19 who demonstrates commitment to the volunteer sector, evidence of volunteer leadership achievements and a dedication to the advancement of the status of women - received by March 31
  • 1st Farm Credit Services - First Choice Agricultur Scholarship - furthering education in agriculture or rural life-related field, based on academic achievement, community and agriculture youth organization involvement and essays - received by March 31

  • East Central Illinois Community Action Agency Scholarship - must reside in Iroquois county, must meet income guidelines - due April 15
  • IL SAR Joseph S Rumbaugh Historiacl Oration Contest - grades 9-12, oration dealing with an event, personality or docimetn pertaining to the Revolutionary War and show a relationship to America today - go to: www.sar.org/Youth/Oration_Contest - due April 15
