New Scholarships and Other Opportunities for 2015-2016

Regular up-dates of scholarships and other opportunities

There will be regular up-dates of scholarship and other opportunities that are available for all grade levels.  Some information will have web addresses that you can visit.  Copy and paste the web address to your web browser to access these scholarships and programs.  Some scholarships do not have a web address and these scholarships and applications can be acquired in the guidance office.  Scholarships highlighted in this color are scholarships that are due very soon or recently past due.  Scholarships highlighted in this color are scholarship that are newly listed.

  • Kankakee County Corn Growers Gene Novack Memorial Scholarship - pursue education in an agriculture or agriculture-related field of study and parent or grandparent must be a member of the Kankakee County Corn Growers - due June 1
  • Horatio Alger Career & Technical Scholarship - enroll in a community college, commitment to pursue and complete a career or technical program, critical financial need, involved in co-curricular & community service, integrity & perseverance, 2.0 GPA - go to:  www.horatioalger.org/ - due March 15-June 1
  • Miner Charitable Foundation Scholarship - available January - senior with financial need for college, preference given to students pursuing an ag degree - due June 1

  • Acorn Equality Fund Scholarships - scholarships available for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgerder person and their children in Illinois - go to:  www.acornequalityfund.org - due September 23, 2016
  • Vincent E. O"Brien Iroquois County Scholarship - attend University of Illinois in Urabana-Champaign in the College of Engineering - U of I selects the student from the applications
  • Eastern Illinois University Scholarships for New Freshman Students - merit scholarships, go to www.eiu.edu/scholarships/merit.php for the merit calculator - other scholarship available at www.eiu.edu/scholarships
  • First Scholars - first-generation student, first-time full time student - go to: www.firstscholars.org

  • US Bank Internet Scholarship Program - apply on-line at www.usbank.com/scholarship - runs early 2015 through March

  • HomeStar-Kankakee County Hispanic Partnership Scholarship - senior living in Kankakee or Iroquois County, come from a Latino or Hispanic heritage, 2.0 GPA - apply at www.HomeStarBank.com - due April 10
  • Junior Woman's Club Gertrude Segur Arts Scholarship - Iroquois County high school senior active in an artistic endeavor in school (music, band, theater, dance, art, etc.) and accepted in pursuit of an art degree - due April 11
  • Dr. James E Dailey Scholarship - resident of the Iroquois Memorial Hospital service area, accepted into an accredited professional school to pursue a health related career (NOT eligible includes Pre-Med, Pre-Nursing or Pre-Physical Therapy) - go to:  http://www.iroquoismemorial.com/getpage.php?name=index then careers - due April 15

  • Kankakee County 4-H/Youth Foundation Scholarship - good academic performance, participated in 4-H and youth programs in Kankakee County - received by April 15
  • Association of IL Township Committees on Youth Scholarship - demonstrate an interest in serving youth in his or her community; "B" GPA, demonstrated leadership qualities; pursue a major in social work, counseling, psychology, youth recreation, youth prevention, or sociology - go to:  www.aitcoy.org - due April 18
  • Sigma Phi Epsilon Balanced Man Scholarship for the University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana - male excelling in scholarship, leadership, athletics, and community service - due April 18

  • Kankakee County Hispanic Parnership, Inc. Educational Gift Program - reside in Kankakee County and is of Hispanic or Latino heritage, 2.0 GPA, proof of enrollment in an educational program - due April 30

  • Iroquois County Sheriff's Police Scholarship - pursuing a career in criminal justice - due April 15

  • Prudential Spirit of Community Award - this award is to recognize middle and high school students for volunteer service in their community - apply at http://spirit.prudential.com  - due by November 3

  • Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program - one student with a 2.8 GPA is nominated from the school (selected for 2014-15) for their commitment to community, academics, and demonstrated leadership - due December 3

  • Kankakee Iroquois Educational Office Professionals Scholarship - senior, must intend to continue in an office-related business program, must have completed two or more business education courses (four semesters), must be enrolled/expected as a full-time student in an institution of higher education (2-4 year College/University), must be responsible for the completion and return of all required support material - due December 11

  • NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation Scholarship - senior, attend a school of higher learning, and has an established business - go to: www.NFIB.com/YEA - due December 18
  • Thomas H Moore IEC Memorial Scholarship - Must be a high school senior and be the son or daughter of an IL Electric Cooperative consumer currently receiving service from the Cooperative- must be planning to enroll full-time in a college, university, or vocational/technical school - go to: www.eiec.coop - received by December 31
  • Golden Apple Scholars of Illinois - for the class of 2016 who have the potential of being excellent teachers, scholars agree to teach five years in an Illinois school of need, scholars must attend four residential summer institutes - see Mrs. Smith for more information or go to:  www.goldenapple.org - due January
  • 2016 John F Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest - grades 9-12, essay about an elected official in the US who served during or after 1956, less than 1000 words, go to: www.jfklibrary.org - due January 6
  • GE-Reagan  Foundation Scholarship - demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship - go to:  www.reaganfoundation.org/scholarships - due January 7
  • Gates Millennium Scholars - meets unmet need above what FAFSA scholarships will provide, must be an African American, American Indian/Alaskan native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American and citizen of US, 3.3 (unweighted) GPA, first time college studen in fall, demonstrated leadership abilities - go to: www.gmsp.org - due January 13

  • American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship - A constitutional speech contest - due January 29
  • FFA Scholarships - pursue an ag related field - go to:  https://www.ffa.org/participate/scholarships - begin applying November 15 due February 1
  • National Honor Society Scholarship - Demonstrate outstanding character, scholarship, service, and leadership; must be a member of the National Honor Society.  CHS will nominate only two NHS members based on their CHS application.  The two applicants will receive the website address to apply for the national scholarship.  Applications must be returned to the CHS application to the advisors by February 1
  • Delta Kappa Gamma Education Recruitment Grant - female student planning to major in the field of education - received by February 1
  • 2016 CBAI Foundation for Community Banking Annual Scholarship - seniors, essay contest emphasizing the philosophy of the community banking industry - due February 3
  • Americanism Essay Contest - three class goups for grades 7-12, less than 500 word essay - due by February 5
  • Beta Sigma Psi Martin Luther Scholarship - young men who will be attending their first year at any accredited four-year college or university, must be confirmed in the Lutheran faith - due February 13
  • Beta Sigma Psi Christian Leadership Award - must attend University of Illinois, Indiana University, or Purdue Universtiy, Lutheran men - sue February 13

  • Children of Veterans Tuition Waiver - can be applied to the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign, Chicago, Springfield, or Health Sciences Center) - must be a natural or legal child of a veteran - due March 1
  • National Defenese Transportation Association Scholarship - priority given to those in a degree program related to business, transportation logistics, or physicla distribution - due March 1

  • Sons of Confederate Veterans Scholarship - descendant of a male who served honorably in the army, navy, judicial, executive, or civil service of the Confederate States of America, lineage must be documented - due prior to March 15
  • Central FFA Boosters Scholarship - for CHS seniors who are a member of the Central FFA Chapter exhibiting potential for successful completion of chosen course of study at an institution of higher learning - due March 18 to the guidance office
  • Dean Ritter Trust for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Scholarship - for senior who are deaf or hard of hearing in one or both ears (severe to profound), exhibit financial need - due March 25

  • 1st Farm Credit Services - First Choice Agricultur Scholarship - furthering education in agriculture or rural life-related field, based on academic achievement, community and agriculture youth organization involvement and essays - received by March 31

  • Smith, Koelling, Dykstra & Ohm Scholarship - senior accepted in an accounting program in a 4 year college or university or acceptance into the school's College of Business if no major is to be declared - due March 31
  • Janie M. Wilken Memorial 4-H/FFA Scholarship - active member of a Ford-Iroquois  4-H Club for at least 5 years and/or a member of a Section 10 FFA Chapter for at least 3 years - contact janiesfarm@yahoo.com for a computer generated application - received by April 1

  • Ford-Iroquois Farm Bureau Foundation General Scholarship and the Skog Family Trust Memorial Scholarship - seniors pursuing an agriculture or an ag-related field, member or a child of a member of the Ford-Iroquois Farm Bureau - received April 1

  • Clifton Lioness Club Scholarship - CHS senior who will pursue a special education field which include hearing impairment and visual impairment education - due April 15

  • Evelyn Dandurand Memorial Scholarship - member of the Central Band for at least 3 years, majoring or minoring in music or playing an instrument at the college level - due to band leader by April 15

  • Marie Kimmel Memorial Scholarship - active member of a Lutheran church in Iroquois County, will seek a degree on a full-time basis - due April 15

  • Bruce Spaulding Memorial Scholarship - current or past students of the Kankakee Area Career Center Fire Service program, you do not need to complete two years of the program - due April 15
  • East Central Illinois Community Action Agency Scholarship - must reside in Iroquois county, must meet income guidelines - due April 15
  • IL SAR Joseph S Rumbaugh Historiacl Oration Contest - grades 9-12, oration dealing with an event, personality or docimetn pertaining to the Revolutionary War and show a relationship to America today - go to: www.sar.org/Youth/Oration_Contest - due April 15
