New Scholarships and Other Opportunities for 2014-2015

Regular up-dates of scholarships and other opportunities

There will be regular up-dates of scholarship and other opportunities that are available for all grade levels.  Some information will have web addresses that you can visit.  Copy and paste the web address to your web browser to access these scholarships and programs.  Some scholarships do not have a web address and these scholarships and applications can be acquired in the guidance office.  Scholarships highlighted in this color are scholarships that are due very soon or recently past due.  Scholarships highlighted in this color are scholarship that are newly listed.

  • Stokes Educational Scholarship Program - must major in computer science, computer/electrical engineering, math, or Foreign Language - Senior in high school, ACT at least 25, GPA 3.0, U.S. citizen - go to: www.NSA.gov/Careers - due from September 1 through November 15
  • First Freedom Student Competion - this is a national essay and video contest for grades 9-12 - go to: www.firstfreedom.org - register by November 17

  • Amazon Studen Scholarship - must be a full-time undergraduate student at an accredited, not-for-profit US college or university in the fall, must be a student member of Amazon - go to:  www.amazon.com/b/?node+9944643011 - due November 20

  • Stone Seed Group Scholarship Program - We Believe In The Future of Illinois essay contest, 250-word essay - apply online at http://www.stoneseed.com/EssayContest/Pages/default.aspx - due November 30
  • Timberline Billing Service Scholarhsip - must have had or has an IEP and plan to continue their education/training pas high school, essay or video or audio presentation required - due postmarked by November 30
  • Stone Seed We Know Illinois Agriculture Essay Contest - seniors write a 250 word essay - go to:  www.stoneseed.com/essaycontest - due from October 1 thru November 30
  • Golden Apple Scholars of Illinois - for the class of 2015 who have the potential of being excellent teachers, scholars agree to teach five years in an Illinois school of need, scholars must attend four residential summer institutes - see Mrs. Smith for more information or go to:  www.goldenapple.org - due December 1
  • Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program - one student with a 2.8 GPA is nominated from the school (selected for 2014-15) for their commitment to community, academics, and demonstrated leadership - due December 4
  • Kankakee Iroquois Educational Office Professionals Scholarship - senior, must intend to continue in an office-related business program, must have completed two or more business education courses (four semesters), must be enrolled/expected as a full-time student in an institution of higher education (2-4 year College/University), must be responsible for the completion and return of all required support material - due December 12
  • AXA Achievement  Scholarship - 1 scholarship from every state, only the first 10,000 applications will be accepted, ambition and drive, determination to set and reach goals, respect for self/family and community, abitlity to succeed in college  - go to: http://www.axa-achievement.com - due December 15
  • Burger King McLamore Foundation Scholars Program - sr., maintain a 2.5 GPA, work a minimum of 10 hrs per week, involved in community service activities, financial need - go to www.bkmclamorefoundation.org/WhatWeDo/ScholarsProgram - available October 15 thru December 15
  • NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation Scholarship - senior, attend a school of higher learning, and has an established business - go to:  www.NFIB.com/YEA - due December 18
  • Illinois Electric Cooperatives Thomas H Moore Memorial Scholarship - Must be a high school senior and be the son or daughter of an IL Electric Cooperative consumer currently receiving service from the Cooperative- must be planning to enroll full-time in a college, university, or vocational/technical school - go to www.eiec.coop - received by December 31
  • Young Authors Writing Competition - send original fiction writing, creative nonfiction writing and/or poetry, submissions begin November 15 - go to:  www.colum.edu/youngauthors - due January 1
  • FIRE's Freedom in Academia Essay Contest - juniors and seniors, 800-1,000 word essay - go to:  http://www.thefire.org/student-network/essay-contest/ - due January 1
  • 2015 John F Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest - grades 9-12, essay about an elected official in the US who served during or after 1956, less than 1000 words, go to: www.jfklibrary.org - due January 5
  • GE-Reagan  Foundation Scholarship - demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship - go to www.reaganfoundation.org/scholarships - due January 8
  • National Honr Society Scholarship - Demonstrate outstanding character, scholarship, service, and leadership; must be a member of the National Honor Society.  NHS members must complete a CHS application & retun it by December 15.  CHS will nominate only two NHS members based on their CHS application.  The two applicants will receive the website address to apply for the national scholarship.  Applications must be returned to the advisors by December 15 & the national application is due January 26
  • FFA Scholarships - pursue an ag related field - go to:  www.ffa.org - begin applying on November 15 due February 1
  • AXA Community Scholarship - 375 winner nationwide, only the first 10,000 applications will be accepted, ambition and drive, determination to set and reach goals, respect for self/family and community, abitlity to secceed in college  - go to: http://www.axa-achievement.com - due February 1
  • CBAI Foundation for Community Banking Annual Scholarship - seniors, essay contest emphasizing the philosophy of the community banking industry - due February 4
  • Fred S Bailey Scholarship - must attend University of IL in fall, demonstrate commitment to service, community involvement, leadership, and action, financial need - go to baileyscholar@universityymca.org - due February 7
  • Illinois DAR Scholarship - Applicant plans to attend an IL college or university, complete the IL DAR Financial Need Form, 2 letters of recommendation, personal biography (less than 400 words), transcript, personal profile - go to: www.ildar.org - due to the local chapter by February 8
  • KCC Foundation Scholarships - must attend Kankakee Community College, apply online at www.kcc.edu/scholarships - apply between November 1 & March 1
  • Illinois AMVETS and AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary Scholarships

  • Ethan Allen Johnson & Carolin;e H Johnson Soy Capital Ag Services Scholarship - based on GPA, scholastic aptitude, & financial need, ACT of at least 16, resident of Kankakee County, application must be typed or completed in ink, NO PENCIL - received by March 6
  • Michael Yasick ADHD Scholarship by Shire - diagnosed with Attention-Deficit/Hyeractivity (ADHD), accepted to an undergraduate program in college, and under the care of a licensed health care professional for ADHD - go to:  www.ShireADHDscholarship.com - due March 18
  • Illinois Electric Cooperative's La Vern and Nola McEntire Lineworker's Scholarship - seniors, parents are members of Illinois Electric Cooperative and receiving service, enrolled in the electric distribution lineworker programs at Lincoln Land Community College - received by April 30

  • Eastern Illini Electric Cooperative's "Youth to Washington" Scholarship - seniors, parents are members of Eastern Illini Electric Cooperative and receiving service, $1,000 scholarship and a week long all expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C. - received by January 31

  • Clifton Lioness Club Scholarship - CHS senior who will pursue a special education field which include hearing impairment and visual impairment education - due April 15

  • Evelyn Dandurand Memorial Scholarship - member of the Central Band for at least 3 years, majoring or minoring in music or playing an instrument at the college level - due to band leader by April 15
