End of Year News and Notes!!

by Travis Williams

May 03, 2009

Things to be aware of at the end of the school year:

First I want to give a brief thank you to all the parents, staff and students for a great year.  With so many changes in administration and new staffing I truly feel that Central High School has been a great place to not only teach the students but grow as an educator.

What's happening in World History??

We will be completing World War I and World War II in the next couple of weeks.  This is always an exciting time in class as both I and the students seem to focus in on one of the most interesting time periods of our world's past.  This is truly a great way to end a year and have some fun learning about a subject that truly meets the standard of excitement students often are looking for.  Especially when the weather and excitement for the end of the year rises on a daily basis

Students will also get a chance to see some visual examples of these two amazing wars with a brief display of scenes from some of the most impressive World War movies produced.  This is truly a great means in which the students often feel they are in these battles themselves.

What's happening in Introduction to S.S?

Students will be exploring 3 more topics in the next two weeks prior to exams.  Students will complete a Geography Unit in which basic skills and awareness of the world around us is touched upon.  Students find both working with maps and the occasional class trivia challenge to be a nice change of pace.

The last two units to be discussed include a brief look at both Economics and the History of History.  These two units are a great way to wind up the year in the classroom as there is a chance to learn some practical skills and knowledge of the world in its present state.  Something that History often does not get a chance to focus on.
