A.R. Guidelines

1.  Students select a book within their STAR reading level.  Each student will receive a book mark with their tested level.

2.  Tests on books checked out in the library take precedence first.

3.  Students are permitted to take one test per day.

4.  Students must read a minimum of 15 minutes per night.  Parents are encouraged to note time spent reading in student assignment books and sign it daily.

5.  Students who do not reach half the stated classroom goal points by midterm will read during recess time.

6.  For each point below classroom goal not earned, 10% will be deducted from their A.R. grade.  For example, a student would earn a 70% if he/she earned 4 points out of 7.

7.  If the A.R. classroom goal is not earned for a particular quarter, a student can not earn an "A" in Reading.  In essence, not meeting the classroom goal usually results in a whole letter grade drop in their Reading grade.

The percentage weight of a student's A.R. grade is based on the total accumulated points earned through all Reading assignments and shall not be less than 20% of their overall grade.

8.  Once students earn their party goal points, they can read any book they choose.  A student must inform Mrs. Hummel whether he or she will continue to read for points or for pleasure.
