Hello! My name is Gail Scoggan. I grew up in Waukegan, IL where I attended school. I graduated from Illinois State University and have been teaching at Central High School since 1978. I teach the following classes during the year: Computer Applications I and II (2nd Semester only), Introduction to Business and Publications Production. I also sponsor the senior class along with Mrs. Adams. Below is a list of my classes with a little information as to what students will be learning in those classes.
COMPUTER APPLICATIONS I
Computer Applications I is designed to develop basic skills in touch keyboarding techniques for entering alphabetic, numeric, and symbol information found on computers. Students will review editing techniques and learn to format text and paragraphs found in letters, memos, reports and tables. We will spend the first few weeks reviewing the correct fingering for the keys on the keyboard, building speed, as well as correct spacing for punctuation and symbols. The second part of the semester will be spent learning to use Excel and Power Point as well as Publisher. There will be no homework as all work is done in class. Emphasis will be placed on improving proofreading skills. Students will be using Microsoft Word 2010.
PUBLICATIONS PRODUCTION
Publications Production is designed to produce the Central High School Centonian yearbook. In this class students will learn how to work together as a team, take pictures, keep records, sell advertisements, meet deadlines, design pages, write copy and design and conduct a yearbook sale. Essential computer skills are a must.
COMPUTER APPLICATIONS II
This class is designed for students who would like to learn computer applications that will be helpful to them in college. They will learn many cutting edge applications that will help them in today's world. We will be covering a lot of exciting areas that they will find useful whether it be here at school, at home, or in the workplace. Students will be participating in a class blog many days. They will be responding to questions that cover the previous class discussion. Topics covered will include social bookmarking sites, search engines, google reader, photo story, movie maker, audacity, Microsoft Office programs, computer ethics, podcasting, and social networking ethics and morals. Students will complete a class project for their midterm grade and another for their final grade in which they will participate in a multi-media presentation to be given to the class.
