Nash Middle School Track Athletes Qualify for State Meet

Medal Won; New School Record Set

On Saturday, May 16, the team traveled to Lincoln Way North High School for the Sectional 24 Meet. At this meet, athletes vie for advancement to the highest level of competition – The Illinois Elementary School Association State Meet. The Nash Rockets 7^th grade boys’ team brought home the 3^rd place team plaque from this 14 team Sectional. The 8^th grade girls’ team earned 4^th place out of 14.

Besides the great team efforts, 7 athletes at the State Meet represented Nash on Friday, May 22, and Saturday, May 23. The gentlemen who appeared on behalf of Nash Middle School include Noah Frerichs (High Jump and Hurdles), Dyllon Renollett (Discus) and Landon Rosenboom (Discus). The ladies who competed are Kasey Dickson (4x200 Relay), Shaquita Madison (4x200 Relay), Sarah Quick (4x200 Relay) and Rayanne Wright (High Jump, Hurdles, 400M Dash, and 4x200 Relay).

On Friday of the State Meet, Noah Frerichs qualified for the semifinals in the 110M Hurdles with a time of 17.52 seconds. He took 5th place in his semifinal heat and just missed qualifying for the finals. Also on Friday, Rayanne Wright was quite busy, competing in her 3 individual events (High Jump, 100M Hurdles and the 400M Dash). She earned the 2nd place medal in the 400M Dash with a time of 59.99 seconds, beating the school record as well.

Finally, on Saturday of the State Meet, Landon Rosenboom and Dyllon Renollet competed in the Discus, while Noah completed in the High Jump. The 8th Grade Girls 4x200 Relay was also on the docket. While none of the athletes made the finals, the girls relay did re-set the school record by taking another second off their personal best. The school record now stands at 1:58.46.

All in all it was a great season for the Nash Middle School Tracksters. Many school records were broken throughout the season, athletes became faster, more coordinated and stronger. Come see what the Nash Middle School Track Team does during the 2010 season!
